How to Use a Korean Restaurant Kiosk: A Step-by-Step Guide

 


Touchscreen kiosks are common in Korean fast-food restaurants, cafés and casual dining chains. The layout varies, but the basic process is usually similar.


1. Find the Language Button


Look for English, Language or a flag or globe icon. Not every kiosk offers English, and translations may be incomplete.


2. Choose Dine In or Takeout


Dine In may also appear as Eat Here. Takeout can appear as To Go or Packaging. Choosing the wrong option is usually easy to correct before payment.


3. Select a Category


Menus may be divided into meals, drinks, sides, sets and desserts. Tap a food picture to open its options.


4. Check Required Options


You may need to choose size, temperature, spice level, side dish or drink before adding the item. A set menu can cost more than the main item alone.


5. Review the Cart


Check the quantity, options and total price. Remove accidental duplicate items before continuing.


6. Pay


Most kiosks accept cards, but some do not accept every foreign card. Insert, tap or swipe only when instructed. If payment fails, try another card or ask whether payment at the counter is possible.


7. Take the Receipt


The receipt usually shows an order number. Do not throw it away immediately.


8. Watch or Listen for Your Number


Your order number may appear on a screen or be announced in Korean. Compare the displayed digits with your receipt.


If There Is No English


Use a camera-translation app for short menu text, look at pictures or politely ask a staff member. Avoid photographing other customers.


Table Kiosks


Some restaurants have a tablet at each table. In that case, sit first, place orders through the tablet and pay either through the device or at the counter, depending on the restaurant.


Useful Korean


매장 means dine in.

포장 means takeout.

주문 means order.

결제 means payment.

영수증 means receipt.


Important


Screens, card support and ordering steps differ by restaurant. Take your time and ask for help rather than repeatedly pressing the payment button.
